At Goodness Gift, we believe in the power of opportunity. Our mission is to empower individuals on the autism spectrum by providing meaningful employment that allows them to showcase their talents and develop essential skills. Today, we’re thrilled to celebrate the success of two of our associates, Michael and Iman, who have transitioned to new roles at Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association.
Meet Michael: Finding Strength in Helping Others
Michael joined Goodness Gift as an associate from June to September, where he learned valuable skills that would pave the way for his future. “During my time at Goodness Gift, I developed communication, focus, and cleaning skills,” he shared. These skills became instrumental in his new role at Carefirst, where he now works as a Team Assistant.
In his role, Michael supports his coworkers by lending a helping hand wherever needed, a responsibility that aligns perfectly with his passion for assisting others. “This new opportunity means that I can learn new skills and further develop the ones I already have,” Michael expressed. He feels that his time at Goodness Gift, especially the support from job coaches and coworkers, played a crucial role in preparing him for this next step. “They worked with me on challenges I faced and gave me a space to grow.”
When asked to share advice for others on the autism spectrum, Michael’s message was one of perseverance and growth: “Don’t give up on your dreams. Life can be hard, but it helps you become a better person. Learn from friends, family, and coworkers, and develop your own version of those skills to become a better you.”
Meet Iman: Building Confidence and Professionalism
Iman’s journey with Goodness Gift began in 2021, and she returned in 2024 to continue developing her skills. Known for her organizational talents, Iman’s time as an Assistant Associate prepared her to excel in her new role at Carefirst, where she serves as a Team Assistant. Her responsibilities include setting up activities, sanitizing spaces, and engaging with seniors through games and social interactions.
Transitioning to Carefirst has boosted Iman’s confidence and professionalism. “I feel confident and professional by adhering to the dress code at Carefirst and learning new skills every day,” she said. Goodness Gift’s emphasis on teamwork and soft skills gave her the foundation to succeed. “They helped me prepare by creating a LinkedIn account, teaching me to work as part of a team, and encouraging me to help others,” she reflected.
For others seeking similar opportunities, Iman emphasized the supportive environment at Goodness Gift. “Working at Goodness Gift helps you develop soft skills and find the right job that fits you. It’s a safe environment with amazing people to work with.”
Carefirst’s Perspective: A Win-Win Partnership
Katherine Ho, the Director of the Woburn Community Hub at Carefirst, expressed her delight in welcoming Michael and Iman to their team. “They are diligent and eager to learn,” she said. The high turnover rate in healthcare makes it challenging to maintain consistent staffing, but the roles Michael and Iman fill do not require professional healthcare training. Instead, it demands a passion for caring for seniors, something both associates bring in abundance.
“They keep seniors company, engage them with games, and ensure safety by encouraging proper hygiene and assisting in fall prevention exercises,” Katherine shared. Michael and Iman’s dedication has significantly contributed to the wellbeing of the seniors at Carefirst, promoting their sense of safety and enjoyment during activities. “I’m glad they have become part of our Carefirst caring team,” she added.
Celebrating Success and Inclusivity
Michael and Iman’s journeys from Goodness Gift to Carefirst exemplify the transformative power of inclusive employment. At Goodness Gift, we take pride in creating opportunities that celebrate the unique abilities of individuals on the autism spectrum. Their success stories are a testament to what’s possible when there is support, understanding, and a chance to thrive.
We are deeply grateful to Carefirst for partnering with us in this journey of empowerment. Together, we’re proving that inclusion is not just a concept but a reality that can lead to meaningful, fulfilling careers. Congratulations to Michael and Iman on their new roles!
